Salvation
Bible
study on salvation.
1 Tim. 2:3-4
God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of
the truth.
Matt. 11:28-30; Rev. 22:17
Jesus invites all men to enter into eternal rest (cf. Rev. 22:1-5,
14).
Matt. 7:13-14, 21-23; Lk. 13:24-28
It is not easy to enter into heaven. Some people who think they
should enter heaven will be lost.
Jn. 1:12
We must receive (receive in this verse means to receive
authoritatively) Jesus as the authority for our life.
Jn. 12:48
We must authoritatively receive Jesus' words.
Matt. 16:24-26; Lk. 14:26-27, 33
We must take up our cross and follow Jesus.
Acts 4:10-12; 2 Tim. 2:10
Salvation is in Jesus.
We enter into Christ through baptism (Rom. 6:3; 1 Cor. 12:13; Gal.
3:27).
People who are in Christ have turned to the Lord (2 Cor. 3:14-16).
The veil is removed in Christ (2 Cor. 3:14), when they turn to the
Lord (2 Cor. 3:16).
Also, see JESUS: CHRISTIANS ARE IN CHRIST.
Mk. 1:15; Rom. 1:5, 16; 10:17; 16:26; 1 Cor. 1:18; 2 Th. 1:8
We must hear and obey the gospel to be saved. The gospel is God's
power to salvation for everyone who believes.
We must practice the truth (1 Jn. 1:6) by keeping the commandments
(1 Jn. 2:3f; cf. 2 Jn. 1:9).
Heb. 5:9
We must obey Jesus (Gal. 6:2 we must fulfill the law of Christ;
1 Cor. 9:21 we are under Christ's law).
We must obey the gospel of Christ to be saved (2 Th. 1:8).
Jn. 3:16
We must believe in Jesus Christ.
Jesus does not say that we are saved by faith only. The Holy Spirit
through James said that we are not saved by faith only (Jas. 2:24).
The demons believe and tremble but they are not saved (Jas. 2:19).
We must have an obedient faith to be saved (Matt. 16:16; Gal. 5:6;
Jas. 1:21-2:26).
Lk. 13:3, 5
We must repent (have a change of mind which results in a change
in action).
Matt. 10:32-33; Rom. 10:10
We must confess Jesus before men.
Mk. 16:16
We must believe and be baptized to be saved.
Acts 2:38-47
We must repent and be baptized for the remission of sins. The Lord
adds those who are being saved to the church.
Acts 16:30-33
We must believe and be baptized to be saved.
Acts 22:16
Our sins are washed away when we are baptized.
1 Pet. 3:21
There is also an antitype which now saves us, namely baptism (not
the removal of the filth of the flesh, but an appeal to God for
a good conscience), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Matt. 10:22
We must endure to the end.
1 Cor. 15:2
We must hold fast to the word to be saved (cf. Col. 1:23; 2:19).
Col. 1:23
We must continue in the faith to be saved.
Heb. 4:11
We must be diligent to enter into God's eternal rest (cf. Heb.
4:1).
Rev. 2:10
We must be faithful until death.
Rev. 3:5; 20:15
Our names must be written in the Book of Life to be saved (cf.
Phil. 4:3).
Lk. 23:39-43
The thief would be with Jesus in paradise that day.
The condition of the thief's soul prior to his death is unknown.
He may have been righteous before God according to the Mosaic Law
under which he lived.
Jesus forgave the sins of many people while on earth (cf. Lk. 5:20-26),
but that does not change the conditions of our forgiveness today.
The thief's salvation has no bearing on our salvation. It cannot
be cited in any respect concerning salvation today.
