Sanctification
Bible
study on sanctification.
1 Cor. 1:2; 1 Th. 5:23; Heb. 13:12; 1 Pet. 1:2;
Jude 1:1
We have been sanctified.
Eph. 5:26; 1 Pet. 1:22- 23
We are sanctified by obeying the word of God (cf. 1 Cor. 6:11).
We are sanctified by the truth. God's word is truth (Jn. 17:17,
19).
"Sanctification" is the separation of something (or someone)
for a sacred purpose. Thus the person or thing that is set apart
is holy, consecrated.
Sanctification of unbelievers by God includes purification (i.e.,
washing).
Therefore Christians are called saints (Rom. 1:7; 1 Cor. 1:2; Eph.
1:1; Phil. 1:1; Col. 1:2) and holy (Rom. 12:1; Eph. 1:4; Col. 1:22).
1 Th. 5:23; Heb. 9:13- 14; 13:12; 1 Pet. 1:2
God sanctifies us by the blood of Christ; therefore, we may draw
near to God (Eph. 2:13) and boldly access God (Eph. 2:18; 3:12).
1 Cor. 1:2
We are sanctified in Christ; we enter Christ through obedience
in baptism (Rom. 6:3; Gal. 2:37).
Therefore the saints are in Christ (1 Cor. 1:2; Phil. 1:1; Col.
1:2).
Heb. 2:11
Those who are sanctified are one with God.
1 Pet. 3:15
We must sanctify God in our hearts.
Christian's sanctification of God in their hearts is setting God
apart in their heart thus dedicating themselves to God's service.
Ex. 19:10-11; Rev. 1:5; 7:14
The Israelites had to wash their garments to be sanctified. We
must wash our garments in the blood of Christ to be sanctified.
We overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb (Rev. 12:11).
We humbly submit to God and resist the devil, cleansing our hands
and purifying our hearts (Jas. 4:7- 10).
1 Th. 4:4
We must posses our bodies in sanctification and honor (cf. 1 Cor.
6:11, 19-20).
1 Tim. 2:8
We must pray lifting up holy hands.
The Bible reveals several positions of prayer. Here, the emphasis
is on being "holy." We must be holy to offer up acceptable
prayers to God.
